2018 Honda Odyssey is here

The minivan competition escalated a level higher at the Detroit Auto Show when the 2018 Honda Odyssey was finally released and it was amazing. As expected, family technology was the main theme in the Odyssey`s interior as Honda finally decided to upgrade on a few not so attractive features of the 2017 Odyssey edition. The 2018 Odyssey has a sleek extended exterior that is slightly different from that of its predecessor. It’s a move which increases interior space and consequently enhances comfort for passengers in the rear and middle seats.

2018 Honda Odyssey Exterior

As we anticipated from Honda`s 2018 Odyssey tease, the car has an improved exterior that retains the traditional Odyssey design. The 2017 Odyssey beltline is retained in the new model, although slightly modified with a steep divergent crease on its side and slightly-enlargened character lines on both sides. At the back, the c-shaped LED tail lights are given an aggressive appearance and are separated with the custom grille to give the car a ‘sporty’ rear appearance.

The Honda team assembled the new minivan with relatively light materials such as aluminum, steel, and magnesium that reduce its overall weight(100 pounds lighter). The trim under the lightning bolt gives the 2018 release a modern appearance that compliments its 19-inch alloy coated rims. At the front, the head lights have a sharp appearance combined with powerful LED capabilities that enhance usability and ease of use by the driver.

Honda Odyssey 2018 Interior and Features

Honda representatives claim the new release was designed with the family in mind, especially parent-children interaction( which explains the massive technological upgrades). Indeed, the dynamic interior makes up for its somewhat boring exterior that doesn`t quite meet the expectations that stemmed from Honda`s 2017 tease. The dash has a new compact appearance with strategically placed controls to allow for ease in multitasking. As if the dashboard upgrades are not impressive enough, you will have more power and can control rear and front climate depending on the external temperature( you no longer have to open windows to get that desired cooling effect).

In terms of technology, the 2018 Honda Odyssey is up there with the best, if not the best for a minivan yet. An infrared camera gives you access to CabinWatch technology which enables you to observe the ongoings at the back seats without having to turn. This is quite an impressive feature that is likely to be a selling point for parents, especially those with a toddler or mischevious under-ten-year-olds. With a 10.2-inch high-resolution screen, the driver and front seat passenger can zoom in whenever need be to check out on the kids or passengers. Needless to say, the initial dual screen feature in the 2017 model was not well received by Honda fanatics as they felt more could be done to increase multi-tasking capabilities. Additionally, the car comes with advanced audio capabilities that enable the driver to communicate via the hand’s free microphone located on the compact dash.

2018 Honda Odyssey Interior

The eight-seater minivan could not be more equipped with user-friendly equipment than it is already. Enter the 2018 Honda Odyssey, and you will notice the incredible interior space. Kids no longer have to relocate to rear seats to give way for adult passengers due to space. In fact, the rear seats have more leg space than the middle row seats. The center seat in the middle row is removable a feature which allows for mobility of the middle row seats. The seat design allows for different configurations despite limited interior space; they can either be spread further apart to allow for rear seat entry or brought closer to meet in the middle for a more direct sitting arrangement. In short, Honda gives you the ever-coveted power to control the appearance of your interior.

Powertrain

Make no joke of the mini-van when it comes to performance! Although not up to sports car engine standards, the next generation Honda Odyssey brags of a 9-speed(for higher trims) or 10-speed automatic transmission which replaces the 2017 edition`s 6-speed transmission. The 3.5-liter, direct-injected i-VTEC V-6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management produces 280 horses, an improvement from the 248 horses produced by its predecessor. The car is expected to have an improved fuel economy( EPA ratings not yet released). Therefore, expect increased performance and power from the minivan`s upgraded engine.

Price and Release Date

Although Honda is yet to reveal the 2018 Honda Odyssey price, we expect it to cost slightly more than the current edition and retail at around $30.500. The minivan will be released for sale around spring and will almost certainly give the Chrysler Pacifica a run for its money.
